You have probably thought about quitting for a long time but for one reason or another, it just never happened. Maybe you simply felt that you were under too much pressure at home or at the job to stop smoking the cigarettes just yet or maybe you were afraid that you would gain weight if you stopped smoking. Some people are simply afraid of failure and since there is a risk that you could mess up when you are trying to stop smoking, it could be scary.

It is important to realize that a large part of the habit is mental. You will need to get yourself past that mental block to ensure that you are able to quit smoking cigarettes. You will need to ensure that you are prepared for the ups and downs that will become a part of your life when you try to quit smoking.

Those who assure you that you don’t have to worry about temptations or cravings are people who have not experienced addiction to anything. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to make a list of all the reasons why you want to stop smoking. Read that list to yourself every day to remind yourself why you are trying to stop smoking.

Maybe you are like many others, who are interested in or curious about the electronic cigarette and you are wondering what it can do for you. Something you will appreciate about the electronic cigarette is that they are apparently much less harmful to you than normal cigarettes as they do not have the thousands of harmful chemicals.

Electronic cigarettes also give you the same “feel” as if you were smoking a normal cigarette and this is part of the reason that many people stop using patches or gums because they are not getting the feel of smoking. In additon, you don’t have the risk of getting tar into your lungs or the lungs of those in your presence. Since there is still nicotine in the electronic cigarettes, you will have to use other management skills to ensure that you are able to eventually quit smoking all together. The best thing to do would be to spread your cigarettes out further throughout the day.

Reduce the amount you smoke over a few weeks or a couple of months and slowly your body will be used to not getting the nicotine. You could do this with regular cigarettes but why would you want to? When you are smoking those, you are getting the tar and all of the harmful chemicals with it as well.

As long as you are commitment to no longer smoking, you will eventually get there. It could take you a few days, a few weeks or even a few months. It could take you a year to fully stop smoking and that is okay as long as you eventually get to your desired end result. Taking a year to completely stop smoking is much better than continuing to smoke for the rest of your life.
